BeReal is an online social media application that has its users share a picture of what they are doing at a specific time that day. The idea is that people would share the mundane things of their life with their family and friends. “Be real”, they are saying. We might also say "be authentic", or "don’t be a hypocrite". This pushes back against the many options technology gives us to be fake.

Believe it or not, being fake isn’t just a problem for 2024. Being fake has always been a temptation and bad habit.
