Relationship with God

The Bible is God’s story about Himself and our world.  From the beginning we find God at work, creating, relating, confronting, judging, and rescuing.  He is described as the Father, the “I am”, the beginning and the end.  This God created humanity to be in relationship with Him, to live for Him.

BELIEFS ABOUT GOD (from our doctrine)

The Bible is also the story of humanity.  From the beginning, men and women turned away from God, choosing their own wisdom.  God describes this as sin, making clear that all people don’t just choose some sin, but now are born in sin.  Sin defines us, and it destroys our relationship with God.  This is the way we are asked to view ourselves.

Because God is a God of love and justice, He pursued sinful humanity.  The story of the Bible leads us to God’s Son, Jesus.  Jesus was sent to show us God, and to pay the price for the sins of the world.  In a surprise move, God allows His Son to die an unjust death.  With another surprise, God raises His Son from the dead, because He is found completely innocent.  His death and resurrection provide an opportunity for forgiveness of sins and a change of status.  Instead of being defined by sin, we can be defined by the goodness of God.  The way we view God and His Son changes everything.

God asks us to humble ourselves and own our wrongs.  He tells us to turn from our sin, and put our trust and future in Jesus.  We exchange living for ourselves by our own wisdom to living for God by His unlimited wisdom.

If you are unclear about your standing with God, or have a different view of what the Bible teaches, we encourage you to set up a meeting with our leaders.  One of our favorite things to do is talk about the message of the Bible and how God has changed our lives!
